Family Info & Prices

I was looking for a photographer to take some up to date pictures of my family post-lockdown and so glad we chose Charmaine. Charmaine made us all feel comfortable and relaxed on the day of the shoot and really captured the essence of our characters in our completed pictures. Would highly recommend x

About your Family Photography Experience

Thank you for visiting Photography by Charmaine Brown.  I have won awards through Viewbug, where other professional photographers vote on the best images.  It is a real honour to receive such recognition.  I am based in the South Croydon area and cover here and the surrounding areas.  I am also very happy to travel all over the UK to meet your photography needs. I provide photography services either from a studio in the Croydon area, in your home or at a beautiful location of your choice. Should you want your family photography shoot to take place in the comfort of your home, you will still get the full studio experience as I have portable backdrop and the studio lighting and props.

Your family photography experience starts with a consultation between us to decide exactly what you are looking for and how you want your images to be displayed. I can plan styling and colours with you and have make-up artists you can work with to discuss how you would like your make-up to be done.

The session itself typically takes 1-2 hours, but I will always allow plenty of time to help you to relax and enjoy the experience.  I will absolutely ensure you get the images you dream of that you will want to display forever.  Whether children are nervous or playful, I have the experience to work with them to make them feel relaxed and get the best from them.  Your final portrait will show them very happy, relaxed and you will completely fall in love with the images. If you want a couple of outfit changes or different background choices, I can absolutely accommodate this.

It's your shoot and I want to ensure the experience to be memorable for all the right reasons.

Indoor/Outdoor Family Mini Sessions

£249

If time is of the essence and you are not looking to have a large amount of images taken, why not take advantage of my mini shoot sessions?  Mini shoots can be done in the home or outdoors, depending on your choice.  For indoor shoots, it is just the one outfit only.

For outdoor shoots, if you want to catch that lovely sunshine that doesn't cause extreme brightness and shadows on your images, the best time to have the shoot is early morning or from around 5/5.30pm to get that fabulously lovely 'Golden Hour' glow.  During the Autumn season, it is better to get your photo shoot done before it starts to get dark. So finishing by 3pm is ideal.  The trees will create a great shade so there is no problem there.

Your mini shoot package includes a 45 minute photo session, plus 5 digital image files to download, also 5 matching professional prints.  Once you have seen your photos, if you feel 5 just isn't enough, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your mini shoot package from one of the options below, by paying the difference.

Upgrade Option One

£199

Get 10 digital images and 10 prints and select from a secure weblink

Upgrade Option Two

£279

Download all images from your mini shoot from a secure weblink.

Upgrade Option Three

£399

Download all of the photos from your mini shoot gallery and choose four images to be framed (choice of frames to choose from). Frame sizes are between 8x8" and 12x16".

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where will the photo shoot take place?

Your photo shoot will take place either at your home or a lovely location outdoors. I do not have a studio, but do not be concerned by this, as my indoor photography shoots all have the studio experience. I am equipped with studio lights and portable backdrops of different colours to suit all your requirements.

What will happen if it is raining?

As we cannot control the elements and it is raining, I will work with. you to reschedule to another date. I will always work to ensure you are not inconvenienced in terms of rescheduling your photoshoot, even if it means doing an extra shoot on a particular day.

How long are the photo sessions?

Depending on your family size and requirementrs, my photo shoots are between 1 and 2 hours. However, time is not an issue as we will continue until all the images you require are taken. For my Family Mini Sessions, these run for up to 45 minutes.

Do you only cover South Croydon and London?

No. I love getting in my car and driving to all locations, so please do contact me if you are outside of my general area. As long as another shoot is not compromised, I can travel to any area.

How do I book with you?

Head to my Contact Page and send me a message. I will contact you within 48 hours with all the information you need to finalsie your booking.

How much do you charge?

I charge £99 for a shoot with me during a weekday and £150 at weekends. Please note this is to confirm your booking with me and does not include, prints, digital images and framing. Once you have had your session and have viewed your images, you can choose the package you would like. This can be digital only; I charge £199 for 10 images and £299 for 20. For packages that include prints and mounts my popular packages are £449 and £549.

How far in advance do I need to book?

You can book with me between one and 3 months ahead. However, do contact me anytime to see if a date within the current month or next is available. For bookings during Autumn and Winter, you should look at booking very soon and getting your favoured slot.

What should we wear?

This really depends on whether your session is indoors or outdoors and how you want your images to look; whether relaxed or very formal. The general consensus is to wear comfortable clothing. You can all wear the same colours or mix and match. It really is up to you. One main advice i give is not wear clothing with big logos or anything shimmery, as this can detract from your faces and take away from all the emotion the images should show. Also, I do advise that all clothing, make-up and hair is immaculate as the camera picks up on everything that does not look right.

Can I have my make-up done?

Yes, you definiltely can. I have make-up artists, qualified through Charlotte Tilbury that can do your make-up for you. Please note that you will need to be ready for them at least 90 minutes before your photo session with me. You will also liaise with them directly, and your make-up fee is separate to your photo session.

Will you guide us on how to pose?

I will direct you smoothly into the right light when it is sunny and I can see shadows on your face that will not make the image right. Also, I will guide you on how to sit/stand and where to put your hands and relax your shoulders. The best images are those that are natural where you are interacting as a family. The best images are taken this way and especially for the children who interact more naturally when not being guided and do their own thing. You get the real feel of their character in this manner. On one shoot, the little girl just was not interested at first, and so I started with the mother and two sons. Once the little girl saw how much fun everyone was having, she walked over and got invovled and was even happy to do poses on her own. With much younger children, it is always best to let them get involved when theiy're ready.
